Protein skimmer

I added a Protein skimmer 2 days ago and now I have a dead crab and a dead
blenny. Could there be a connection?

Only if you did something other than just adding the skimmer, If you
changed other items the change could be part of the problem, but the
skimmer itself is not unless it had some toxins on it that went into the
tank (which is actually very unlikely)

The only other thing I did at the same time was re-arrange the rock in the
tank and remove one of the two carbon filters I had.

Is it possible the skimmer was made overseas? The far-east maybe?

The reaching thought i have is maybe it was shipped across the ocean which
the manufacturers coat products (generally metal, but not limited to) with
an oil.

Venturi skimmers can inject a lot of air into solution. Did your pH change
after the addition? (more dissolved CO2 ??)

actually it has gone down about .4 - .6 is that a large enough drop to kill
fish and crabs?
