HOW MANY HOURS A DAY CAN I GET AWAY WITH LEAVING MY LIGHTS ON A DAY

NOW I AM RUNING THEM FOR 8 HOURS A DAY
I HAVE A 55 GAL REEF WITH 1 220 WATT JEBO COMP-FLO AND 2 3
2 WATT SMARTLIGHT COMP-FLO
I HAVE LEFT THEM ON LONGER AND HAD ALGIE PROBS

I leave mine on for 12 hours a day. They turn on at noon, and turn off at
midnight. There is sliding door across from the aquarium, so there is "real
daylight" from 8am on...No algae issues yet.

You can have them on for as mcuh as 12 hours a day. If you have algae problems, it is either
because your Nitrates are too high, your Phosphates are higher than .03ppm, your light bulbs
are old (the spectrum has shifted) and need to be replaced, you are overfeeding, you are
underskimming, your cleanup crew needs to be beefed up with more critters.....

Just a few possibilities.
