In a FOWLR, I've getting a bit confused about what I'm reading about
lighting. So, straight up, is the hood I constructed for my fresh tank,
(4x40 NO flourescent) sufficient for fish and live rock, no Inverts, (maybe
a shrimp or 2)?

should be fine for No photosynthetic. up to 8 foot long. you did not state
what size tank, but the 4x40 would be enough for a 30-40 reef in many cases
as well.

Oops, sorry. 75 gallon (US). LFS guy I just chatted with stated that normal
output flourescent in sufficient wattage would be ok for all but corals and
most anenomies. Mostly true?

Absolutely true. If you decide you want to get into any type of corals or even
an anemone, please upgrade your lighting first. PC, VHO or MH.
