What would be a good replacement for a Rio 600 pump that i have on my CPR
bakpak skimmer? I have a 10gal tall tank, so i cant put too big a pump in
there because of room constraints. Any ideas?
thanks in advance.

I recommend the Mag Drive 1.9
It's dimensions are 3.5" x 2.2" x 3.2" as opposed to the rio which is 2.5 X
1.75 X 2.33 It's a little bigger but the flow rates are a little better and
the Mag's are reguarded as MUCH MUCH MUCH more reliable.

MaxiJet 1200. With the venturi tube inserted into the intake strainer.

I completely forgot i still had a maxi-jet 1200 from my 75 gal tank that i
took down a few months ago, not that i would have thought of putting it on
my skimmer :) looks like i wont be disecting the rio just to get the
skimmer to work. I'll still disect it, but at least i dont have to put it
back on.
Only question i have is, would that be too much flow for my tank? 295 gph
would turn all the water over in my tank 30 times an hour.
Thanks marc, you just saved me some $$

I wouldn't worry about over skimming. I have an EV-200 on a 55g and a Remora
Pro on a FOWLR 29g!

Well i hooked it up to my skimmer, lots of flow, but i ran into a space
problem. the pump sat too low in the tank and would have squashed my
ricordia. So i cleaned up my rio and put it back on, and am working on a way
to attach the pump with a corner pipe, so that it doesnt sit on top of
anything. Just a matter of fine tunning now that i know it will work.
thanks
oh, and would adding a refugium on a 10g be more work than its worth? I am
looking at making a 5-8gal capacity refugium.

"Dilution is the Solution to Pollution".... adding a refugium might be
troublesome at first, but it will add many benefits once established. Some of
the benefits are outlined at the top of this page:
