Elegance coral are normally pretty easy to deal with. They require
medium light and medium water flow. What kind of lights have you got?
Make sure he's in a good amount of water flow. Not too much though.

My elegance seems to prefer water that is not too clean, e.g., not skimmed
24/7. Seems like it did best when my ORP was around 200 right after a tank
move (actually started producing new polyps), but wouldn't open well when
the ORP was up around 400. Now I only skim about 4 hours/day. I concur on
the medium light and flow--after I upgraded my lights to higher wattages, I
got lots of dark brown zooxanthellae emissions from the polyp mouths over a
several week period. -Larry

most of the wild harvested now are collected from deeper water and have a
harder time adapting to the aquaria because of the lack of water pressure on
them. as mentioned light/moderate flow and not very intense lighting are
preferred but can be acclimated to higher lighting over time.

I have 10000 k Mh .I have tried under 5000k also,also running in conjuntion
with actinic and 6000k flouro, maybe to much light? The coral is about 12"
deed and a moderate flow passing over it.
Temp is a constant 24.3 celsius.
I did a 100% water change 2 days ago using NSW. thinking this would have
helped. All the other corals responded well to the change but not the
Jardenei

We have quite a large one that seems to be thriving -- also with 10 other
corals -- all happy.

We have 180 litres (standard 4 foot tank)
1* 7,000 K, 1*10,000 K and 1 * actinic flouros. Actinic on 12 hours, others
10.5 hours
Eheim 2217 with ceramic rings and substrate,
40 kg live rock
2 * powerheads
Chiller
Skimmer going 24 * 7
Ca around 400 ppm
pH 8.0 - 8.5
Temp 25.0 - 25.5
It gets a reasonable water flow.

I notice from your email that you are from Australia. Mentioning that might
help with your replies. Apparently, the US reefers are having problems with
their foreign sourced Catalaphyllia jardenei. AFAIK, we do not have the
same problem with the Cat's sourced in Aus.

If you don't already know the site, search the archives or ask the same
question at a popular Aussie reefer site:

I forgot to mention, I have two Catalaphyllia jardenei's in my tank. One
normal with green body and pink tips. The other slightly different with
green body and gold tips. Both are doing fine under moderate lighting of a
130w 14k power compact lamp and moderate current. My pink tipped Cat helps
itself to any snails that make their last mistake of getting too close :)
