Where does one get such a thing? I have checked several internet
sources for electronic componenants and such with no luck.

The guys name is David Rumpel and his email is
the last I spoke to him.
These are great little float switches. You could probably make your own,
but after all is said and done the cost of goods and your time will far out
weigh the $37.50.
The only bad thing is that it took a while to get. I think he builds them
in batches and ships out 1 day a week...not sure.
I recommend you get 2 if you are using it to top off your sump. The 1st
should plug into the wall outlet and the float should sit high up on your
sump (hang it over the edge. The white float part will never rise since it
is sitting in air above the water...this turns the outlet box ON. The 2nd
should plug into the first.and be placed on a wall in your sump to control
your water level. So...when your sump floods when you are at work,
sleeping, or on vacation the 1st one that was providing AC/DC turns off
because the water rose and raised the float which killed the power. Seems
like it would never happen..but it has to me 3 times in 2 years. Without it
I would have emptied my 35Gal can of top off water into my living room :)

I used some simple ones that I purchased on Ebay. I removed the link when he
altered his units.
However, here are the actual switches themselves.

Maximum Switching Rate 20W ?
Contact Resistance 0.3W max ?
What is that??? Does he measure everything in watts? :-)
Or my webbrowser is mixing characters for me? :-))
But I guess it is a good price. $15 for 2 switches shipped home - not bad.

Beats me, Pszemol, I just know they work. :)

Btw, if you install a relay from Radio Shack (or elsewhere), you can have the same float
switch set up with 12v instead of 110v. Keeps the power out of the water column.

I hope you are not suggesting they can have a problem with leaking current to the water?
I just ordered some of them understanding they are completely sealed... :-(

I know it is just a detail and the person who would have any use of this
data will know the right units, but it just looked funny when the repeating rate or
the resistance was expressed in Watts and I wanted to share my joy with you :-)
Other than that - it is strange it was not noticed by the manufacturer...
I e-mailed him about this - we will see.

How were the units altered?

He used to sell them wired up to an extention cord, with the actually
connections in a small plastic folding case. I used to get those tiny cases
from the dentist, so I could store a tooth I'd recently lost.
I have a feeling someone had an 'event' and he decided to just sell the floats
and limit his responsibility.
