View Full Version : Bubble trap?

Hi,

Are Bubble Traps really necessary in a sump?

Can't I just isolate the return pump with a 'cage' to keep out the critters?
Is the trap to prevent cavitation in the pump or to stop bubbles from
getting into the main tank and if so, what's wrong with small bubbles in the
tank?
I am building an 80g Reef with a 30g sump.

Thanks again,

Dan

I have had bubbles making it into my sump and back into the tank.
Really is not harmful, but your water will be a bit cloudy, and you
make not like the look of this.

Make sure you build it correctly. The outer walls go to the base of the sump,
the center one is raised up 1.25" from the floor.
