View Full Version : What to expect when changing skimmers?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if I should expect any 'bad' things to happen if I upgrade
skimmers. I have been using a Skilter250 on a small tank (20-25G)
containing mostly cleanup critters, mushrooms, polyps, shrimp, and dusters.
All inhabitants appear healthy. After 5 years, the Skilter appears to be
running on its last leg and I would like to replace it with a larger one[CPR
backpack maybe].
What problems could I run into by changing skimmer types? Should I upgrade
or get a new Skilter250?
p.s. I already know how many people feel about the Skilter, so please
refrain from scolding me for using one... Thank you in advance.

If you already know this NG response then I only can say is to upgrade
anything better than CPR or SeaClone or Prizm or Lee or Skilter or Amiracle.
Or just simply goto this link
http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_protein_skimmers__index.asp?CartId=
Look for anything that have XXX "High Efficiency".

Depending on your budget, I would look at AquaC Remora with MaxiJet 1200
pump. You can find good deals on eBay, www.reefcentral.com, www.reefs.org,
etc. Can't go wrong with the AquaC's.
