Do you connect kalkreactor output with skimmer input, to outgassthe excess
CO2 before it can get to your tank ??
Is good idea ? Does it work ?

yes it works,,,but... protein skimmers function best with a higher pH, and
dumping the CO2 into your skimmer will lower the pH. By dosing Kalkwasser, the
pH will stay higher, but if youre dosing Kalk, there isnt much need for the
calcium reactor ant their excess CO2 ;-).

It works, though I only run my skimmer intermittently, which means
that when the skimmer is off the reactor effluent would just be
building up in the skimmer body.

I suggest you plumb it into the drain line from the tank to the sump.
That tends to get mixed very well where it falls into the sump which
is all you really need to make sure that most of the residual CO2 is
offgassed.

There's another solution that's even better, which is to have both a
Nilsen reactor (anoxic CaOH mixing chamber) and a Calcium reactor
plumbed to the same high flow area. The pH problems normally
associated with dripping kalk (high pH) and Calcium reactor effluent
(low pH) completely offset each other resulting in high Ca levels
without a compromised pH.

But the simplest thing to do with your currency setup is just to plumb
the line into some high flow part of your system and let the turbulent
mixing there take care of the CO2.

Ross
