Is this redhair algae? Is it something I need to control and how?

That is hard to tell... it could be some green hair algae that is dying off, or
some cyano bacteria that is blowing in the current. Do you have any more of it,
where you can take a picture of it? Maybe rip of a piece of it and put it on a
white paper towel, then take a picture.

It recedes in the evening and is only a red spot on the rock but, in the
day time it is fine hair like the longest pieces about 1" blowing in the
current.

i'm gettin the exact same algae growth.

I believe it's cyano algae it develops into a light film when i turn off my
circulation to feed the fish. My tank has been setup for about a year and a
half now and i have just started seeing this for a few weeks. I have done a
water change once a week right now and it seems like there's less, but I'm
not quite too sure. I could use the same help with this problem

Hmm.. I still can't say. In the water, does it perhaps resemble pink cotton
candy?

This stuff is dark red or burgundy and very fine baby hair like. Is it
something I should try to get rid of?

That looks just like some stuff that I had on some LR that I bought from the
LFS.

My Emerald and Hermit crabs took care of it.

My hermits don't seem too interested in it, maybe they just aren't
hungry enough yet.

I think it was my Emeralds that did most of the work. Do you have any?

Yes but, I moved it to the sump because it was eating my coralline
algae.....

?!?!?

Are you sure about that? I've never heard about this before. If that's
true then, no FREAKIN wonder I'm not having much luck getting my coralline
to spread. I have four emeralds in a 75g. Hmmmm.......

I observed it eating dark red coralline and removed him the same day. I
also have received reports from others with similar experiences.

Yes, they can, but don't worry... they don't eat it all. Given time, they'll
never be able to keep up with the coralline growth.
