watchman goby

I've got a yellow watchman goby in my tank and I maybe only see him once a
week for a glimpse..

Is this normal behavior for them?

Yes, especially if you recently got him. He will always hide, but once
he gets used to his territory he will come out and show himself. How
long has he been in the tank?

well over a month, maybe even 2 months now..
He just hides under one of my rocks and pokes his head out when he smells
food, then back in he goes!

only other fish I have are 2 green chromis, a yellow tang, and a firefish
goby, as well as a peppermint shrimp, blue leg hermit crabs, and some turbo
snails...

In a 4' long tank, so there's lots of room to spare for his territory...him
and my firefish live in the same rock.

Under that rock is his home. You will probably only see him when you
feed. All I know to tell you is to enjoy him those few seconds you get
to see him when he is eating. My friend at the LFS has got one in there
reef display and he will disappear for months at a time and just happen
to show up one day.
