Iodine

[Dinky]

I can read the instructions on the bottle, but I'd like some input
from those with experience on the need and application of this
substance.

75 gal(US) FOWLR
40lbs LR
160w NO flour.
30gal sump
3 camel shrimp
2 cleaner shrimp
2 emerald crabs
30 blue leg
20 mararita snail
1 yellow tang
1 blue chromis
1 choc star

IME iodine is only needed for coral dips and not to add to the tank.
especially if your not testing your tank for it.

feeding the tank (flake/frozen) foods will add iodine to the system.

OK. I had read somewhere that it was needed for healthy shedding of
exoskeletal critters. I'll do a bit more reading.

Yes, they need trace amounts for this. Most fish foods contain some, which is
enough for this. I don't dose iodine ever, and all of my shrimp and crab molt
regularly.

I think after a long debate on this the scientific groups got involved and
it's now being said that the molts are to shed excess of iodine and not
always a form of growth.
