View Full Version : Coralline Algae Growing on Sand?

Is this normal? My sand is getting a purple dusting. It appears that
Coralline Algae is spreading over the sand. I'd rather see it on the rocks
but hey, at least its spreading.
Please advise.

I'm not saying it's impossible as i don't know but It is VERY
difficult that that is corraline algae, especially if you do not have
a lot of it on the rocks. Most probably it's some kind of algae that
you don't want. I had a more
reddish algae that started off as red sand and ended up covering parts
of
the dsb. I am planning to introduce a sand sifting goby to overcome
this.
Not to be pessimistic, but I wouldn't be very happy.

whats it feel like
if you softly move your hand over it does it go away
doesnt look like coralline to me.

i didnt post a response until you posted the pic
it sure looked like cyano to me :D
but I also know that sometimes a pic isnt worth 1000 words.
