View Full Version : My AquaC Skimmer... Is this Right?

I have an AquaC EV-120 w/ a mag 5 on it.

It's been running for a couple of months now and something doesnt seem right
to me.

If I run it with the air valve fully open (as suggested in the manual) a
watery foam quickly rises to the top and the cup fills with water within a
minute.

I have the drain fitting option but it actually makes some noises as the
water/air is shooting out.

If I choke it down about 75 percent, I eventually get the thick green wet
stuff I am accustomed to.

I guess I'm just looking to compare notes with other EV-XXX users. Any
advice is appreciated.

TIA

I re-read the manual for some insight (prolly should have done that before I
posted) and I felt I should add that the water level in the skimmer does not
change with the water level in the sump. Also, the gate valve is open all
the way.
I have a Mag 5 which is what they recomend but perhaps its too big?

The water level that your skimmer sits in should never change for consistent
results. I have the EV-200 with a Mag 12. It is fully submerged, where the
opening of the gate valve is beneath 1" of water all the time. The gate valve
is 100% open. The air intakes on my skimmer are not alterable, as they are
merely two 1/4" holes drilled in the top of the black box.

Works great, with dark green skimmate and serious sludge in the bubble reaction
tower. The collection cup fills up with fluid over a week's time. It is under
my 55g, with about 70g of water volume.
