View Full Version : Hobby, my a**

I bought 20 more pounds of LR for my 75g FOWLR, and a handful of
shells for my hermits. I put in the shells and situated the rock,
then settled in to watch, several hermits decided to move into a new
home almost immediately. The rock was teeming with life, pods, worms,
and bunches of things I've no name for. I looked at the clock and
discovered that I'd been squatted in front of the tank for 3 bloody
hours!!! This isn't even an obsession. It's a life.

Imagine how many more hours you will spend in front of it if you loaded it
with colourfull corals.

I would spend less... Hermits and other animals like them (shrimps, crabs)
are more interesting than corals: they move, they have character, they fight
they are something to watch more than plant-like corals :) Of course IMHO.

Whether you find corals interesting or not is a matter of personal
preference. But if you are interested in recreating a natural reef
environment, then I think you'd have to agree that corals are a natural part
of such a setup.

I just said there is more to look at crabs/shrimps.
They show personality, some action they are not so passive
so they can glue your interest for longer hours than corals :-)
And of course - it is personal perference - what else?

I like the way the hermits fight over shell and it's the same all the time.
If I want a tank with action then for me it'd be several Lion Fish and
another tank setup with fresh water guppies as feeder. Now that fun to
watch.

As we can see - "de gustibus non est disputandum" :-)
So my point is noted: we do not know if Dinky would
spend much more if he has corals instead of hermits ;-)
