Okay, I've had my heart set on getting 6 Mpimbwe this week, but the store I
ordered them from got 7 Stripe instead. What is the difference? What is the
difference in any Front for that matter?

I want the largest, most striking Frontosa out there. Are they all similar?
Would I even know the difference? Or should I wait another 3 weeks or so to
get the Mpimbwe or other front that you find most colorful or striking?

Thanks,
-Muuurgh

There are many variants of frontosa and sub-variants (burundi, kigoma,
mpimbwe, kavala, zaire blue, moba, kapampa, bismarck, ikola, among several
others), with varying levels of differences between each one. The kigoma is
the 7-stripe variant. Between the mpimbwe and kigoma, the mpimbwe will have
more blue, but the kigoma's are also nice.

The most striking ones will probably depend on personal preference (some
have intense blue colors, others may develop larger humps, others aren't as
skittish, etch). If you're planning to breed them, you'll probably want all
of the same variant (having both mpimbwe and kigoma in the tank will lead to
hybrids considered to be worthless).

If you go to this link:

You'll find a the cyphotilapia species map link which will provide samples
of each variant.

This link also provides variant examples:

(and they're probably more sites out there as well like www.cyphos.com
