In the latest article of Tropical FIsh Hobbyist (April '06) they have a
little feature on Zebra Plecos (Hypancistrus Zebra, L046, L098, L173).
They mention that they have a very high price, how high do they mean?
Does anyone have any experience with these little beauties? They don't
seem all that hard to care for, just rare.

Zebra Pleco fry are selling for over a 100 dollars each. Care isn't that
difficult, it's the breeding that's difficult. There are more and more
people breeding these fish, so you may see the price coming down eventually.
THere's a profile on our forum by the co-owner "Barbie" who is breeding
Zebra plecos. It can be found at http://www.fishaholics.org then click on
Fish, then on species and scroll down the list to the Hypancistrus.

We bought several of the little beauties about 7 years ago, got them
for 50 bucks each in this great aquarium center in Baltimore(I miss
that place). Had them for a couple of years and then gave our aquariums
away when we moved. Just got back into fishkeeping last year--and the
zebra plecs were #1 on my wife's list--easy to keep and lovely to look
at--it even comes out frequently when provided with plenty of hiding
places. We were shocked to see the high prices and limited
availability, but I know I'll be buying more eventually. I do hope they
start to come down in price, they are always a lovely addition.
