Just started fishkeeping again after 25 years ,I need your advice with a
problem that most of you have had. When I started last october with 4 platies
6 corys 3 dwarf gouramies everything went very smoothly until platies
started to have fry.Now I think even the fry are having fry ,I must have a
100 platies from just born to 4 months old. What is the best way to proceed
i.e. remove all fish and give them away, buy larger fish to remove them
natures way ,or any suggestions that you have about when it happened to
you.My tank is a juwel 180 with extra eheim filtration so it as ok for the
moment but wont keep up much longer, thanks for any ideas Martyn

Add a small school of 4" rainbowfish to your aquarium. They're peaceful,
and high quality ones are extremely beautiful, and very adaptable to a wide
range of pH. They love to eat fry, but won't try much else on account of
their tiny mouths.

My local pet store has always been happy to relieve me of home grown
young fish. For common species like Platies he would usually give me a
fair amount of store credit. Corys and gouramis get cash.
Or you could set up a new tank. A big tank, heavily planted, and
hundreds of bright, busy platies would look kind of pretty.

Chain stores wont take them as a rule, but Mom and Pop stores generally will
if they're not too small. Or put a index card up on a local posting board
offering them for free. Many stores have them these days.

I put a box of Platys (900) in an Oceanic 135g tank. Looked really nice,
with petrified rockwork (to keep the hardness up), and a riverstone
'stream' running along the bottom. Sold lots of Platys that month, but
the staff were cursing me, as the Oceanic has a crossbrace : (.
Stores will usually take them as they sell easily.
