Has anyone tried to transport live corals or fish in their carry on luggage?
I have searched the carry on rules and don't see sal****er prohibited, but
the screener is given total freedom to prohibit items not listed.
thank you

I am sure they would consider it/them as being a live creature and prohibit
its position next to you on the plane.

You should contact the carrier to see what their policy is. At worst you
box it and have it put in the hold.

You should contact the airline that you are going with and ask. It varies on
each carrier. But you should contact the custom of port and request
information regarding the thing about to bring into. Check for any banned
object and such. Otherwise you will face certain fee(s) and illegal import
item(s).
Example of a stupid custom that I face before.
From HK to SFO
Purchase ichiban beef jerky / pork at HK terminal and was told from SFO
custom that it illegal to bring in any non-dry food into the states. Those
several bag of non-dry jerky (veries flavor) was confiscated. As I walk out
and into the merchant terminal, I see those same vendor "Ichiban" that also
selling all sort of verieties of jerky.

I thought the point of this was to protect your country from pests that may
also be living in
the packet. The stuff sold in your country may not have been the same even
if the packets
were identical. Would you put my reagal Tang in your reef without
quarantine. ?
I hope not !

Maybe things have changed but it used to be that the air in the "hold" was
not conditioned so at high altitudes, it would get pretty cold in there.

The jerky sold in the US has been inspected by USDA.

Thanks for all the info.
I should have mentioned that the purchase and transfer would be within the
US. This time Houston to Orlando.

I think you could carry them on. I would check with the airline to be
certain, but I don't think it would be a problem.
You know, there are plenty of stores in central Florida that have good
selections of coral, so unless you have something special in mind, you might
want to look around locally.

After last year's MACNA XV, everyone flying home had livestock and the guys at
the security screening station merely were amused by our bags of goodies and
wanted to see what we had, as it did tend to vary. Our flight was from Kentucky
to Dallas/Ft Worth. I had a leather, an SPS and a case of LR. My friend had
black Perculas etc. Another club member brought back to soft-sided bags stuff
with SPS corals!
