Has anyone noticed that filthy perverted stuff is being put on this
website? This is a website strictly for talking about reef
environments. Aquaria marine misc. is now nothing but junk top to
bottom. Probably all viruses if you do look into them. Is there no
moterator or person who has some authority that can rid us serious
reefers of this junk? If you want to look at or talk about anything
other than reefs you need to do that on your own time because thats not
what this website is for. I understand that it is mostly trolls, not
members, who are doing this. If you agree with me please just post up
and let me know. If there is anyone out there who has the authority to
stop this please chime in.

I already posted this in another forum area to get the word out, and I
have e-mailed administrations.

Thanks

| Has anyone noticed that filthy perverted stuff is being put on this
| website?

The spam? Sure have. This is the internet, it's forking everywhere,
and nobody seems to be able to do anything about it.

This is a website strictly for talking about reef
| environments.

What website? Do you think spammers with automated mass-posting
applications care what this group is 'really' for?

Aquaria marine misc. is now nothing but junk top to
| bottom. Probably all viruses if you do look into them. Is there no
| moderator or person who has some authority that can rid us serious
| reefers of this junk?

No. Most USENET groups are completely unmoderated, and there is not a
whole lot we can do in all practicality. Spammers and these odd
virus-toting posts are pretty much untraceable to their real source,
so there is no one to complain to that cares.

If you want to look at or talk about anything
| other than reefs you need to do that on your own time because thats
not
| what this website is for.

Remember, these "people" are not posting the way we do. They make
thier spam, and instruct a program to post it to every newsgroup in
the world while the spammer goes about his business elsewhere. As for
the virii, they're self-propogating, and repost and resend themselves
automatically. There is no mysterious pervert that thinks we're
interested in seeing brittany spears naked. Some of us are interested
<g>, but we know that's not really what we'd find if we clicked
through.

Again, what website? Are you accessing USENET through a JAVA web
interface or some such?

I understand that it is mostly trolls, not
| members, who are doing this.

Not trolls, automated systems. The live person who is ultimately
responsble for the posting is no more aware of our irritation than
Lee Iacocca was of the cigarette lighter that never worked in my
mother's K-car.

If you agree with me please just post up
| and let me know.

I agree that it's annoying, but the best we can do is just delete
them, the same way we delete the spam that comes in email. Or ignore
it.

f there is anyone out there who has the authority to
| stop this please chime in.

Authority is not the problem.

|
| I already posted this in another forum area to get the word out,
and I
| have e-mailed administrations.
|

The word out? I'm fairly sure that everyone that has ever used the
internet is aware of spam and self-propagating virii.
Administrations? Explain, please.

It will go away, seems to come in waves. Give it a week or so and it should
calm down a bit, always does. There is not much we can do about this one,
unless you want to start the mission of kill filters which IMHO are more
mission than they're worth.

Exactly.... Ignore it, dont click on it or repsond to it and it will become
less of a problem.
Reply and click on it and it will only get worse. After all, THAT'S what its
original purpose is all about and if you repsond then you are contributing
to its success..

I Amen to everything you said, but what I usually do is block the sender in
my outlook express and that way I ignore it and don't risk accidentally
clicking on it.

Yes it's a good idea although all they do is alter a little of the text
before/middle or after the name and it usually gets through.
Thankfully most Spam and Virus related messages are pretty easy to tell
apart from the good messages.
eg: Usually if it mentions Britany Spears or some chick without clothes
wants to chat to you then it's a good idea not to click on it. hehhee......
(although just maybe oneday it might actualy be true) hahhaa

This is usenet news, not a web site (although some people probably
access it through some web site). It's as easy to send spam here as it
is to send it through email, thus the spam. Just don't read them. If
NOBODY read them they would go away. Alas...

Well, Eric I wrote a goodbye post when I was kind of mad. I had many
different responses. I'm really not planning on leaving this site. I've
actually turned off the filter on my PC. I'm amazed at how people will
get caught in the moment and say things that are cold as ice. I regret
even worrying about the spam crapp from the start, but thanks to all
those guest out there for letting me know how much of a fool I am. I'm
sorry to ppl out there who I have offended simply by getting angry and
posting something that I didn't mean. Anyway lets talk about reefs
cause I can't take this crapp about the spam anymore.

You have the option of opening the post or not opening the post and if it is
something you do not like you have the option of closing it, everybody
expects someone else to do this for them, when someone else steps in and
takes care of the problem that you could have fixed yourself by not looking
or closing the thread, we all loose rights, including you, turn the channel
and be a man and take care of it yourself.
