View Full Version : RO/DI

I have a Kent Maxxima HI-S RO/DI . I changed the 3 cartridges and let all
the air out but over the next couple days every time I get water the level
in the resin cartridge drops lower and lower ( It appears any new water
going through the system does not contact the resin beads). Eventually it
fills back up when the float valve closes and the system stops making more
water. If I unscrew the canister and let it overflow to purge all the air
its only a matter of days before it fills up again with air only while
making water. Any suggestions?

Thanks
I was concerned my water was not being deionized because it didn't seem to
do that the first couple of years I had it. now it does it all the time

Check with a TDS for the reading. This will tell if the DI is really working
or not.

Kevin,
New DI units take a while (a couple of weeks) to run completely filled. During
that first two weeks, try to open the valve on the RO/DI output only 50% to keep
the DI full.
FYI, all the water goes THROUGH the DI so you don't have to worry, it isn't
being bypassed. After it has been fully saturated, it will remain full all the
time. That has been my experience.
I'd like to recommend you get a handheld TDS meter, like the one made by Hanna.
My DI output is 0. A range of 0 to 50 is quite a bit of difference.

50ppm is kind of high.
If that is the correct reading from your TDS, you may need to check your
media if it is need changing. Otherwise double check your TDS meter if it is
out-of-wack.

The Kent monitor has different settings from 0-50 to 300-500 ppm. I have
it set at 0-50 so it could be 0 or as high as 50ppm it only has a green LED
and a red LED. I'll eventually get a TDS monitor. The Kent monitor is sort
of like the idiot light on a car. Not real helpful until the engine has
already suffered damage

You better off getting those Hanna TDS or similar meter to test your unit. I
believe the LED Kent Monitor is just a gimmick since it does not tell you
the true range. Any time above 50ppm you can somewhat taste the quality of
the water already.

Kevin,
This is normal with a new DI cartridge, and after about 10 days it
become saturated enough to stay full all the time.
Don't worry that your water isn't being properly filtered, because the
water must go through the resin to get out of the system. But I know
what you mean, looking at it and seeing it "empty" is a normal concern.
