Hi there
I have just got a marine tank and so far have one happy fire shrimp in it.
Marine tanks are uncommon here in NZ and none of the pet shops have any
books let alone any cool stuff to go in the tank. I was thinking of getting
some books from Amazon. Can anyone recommend any books? I would like to
add some more fish when I am happy that everything is all settled but would
like to learn a lot more first.
Thanks in advance
Camille

I would tend to steer you away from most books, as marine aquaria has
been advancing pretty quick the last couple years, and only the
newest books would be of any use IMO. Your best bet would be the sign
up at www.reefcentral.com and start reading and asking questions.
http://faq.thekrib.com/sbegin.html might be useful.
Can I ask why you started the tank with a shrimp? Does it have
live rock? Is it cycled? How large? Filtration? Just curious!

Hi Billy
Thanks for your reply. I found that site after I posted here. I spent all
night reading - extremely informative.
I inherited the shrimp with some live sand and rocks. The water is from the
original tank so I think I can say yes it is cycled (I am *really* new to
this). It is 80 liters ( 21 gallons). It has a filtration unit in the lid
with noodles and foamy stuff. It also has some local little shrimp from
down the road that are thriving.
What sort of tank/s do you have?

Read, read, read! When I first started in marine aquaria, someone
here told me to start out slow, then taper off. <g> Sounds like you
got jump started to the point I was at about 6 months after deciding
to get into it!!!
I have 6 tanks, but only one is salt. It's 75 gallon with 30g
sump\fuge, crushed coral\arag substrate, 50 lbs live rock. 1 yellow
tank, 3 yellow tail damsels, 1 percula clown, 2 emerald crabs, one
chocolate chip star and a few dozen hermits and snails.

I had a look at a picture of an emerald crab - fantastic.
Thanks for the advice - I'm off to read some more.
Kind regards

Dedicated doesn't cover it. Obsessed? Perhaps. Sick? Perhaps. To call
this a hobby is woefully inaccurate.
