Unlike the common Fighting Conch or Queen Conch, here's an interesting guy that
I've had for 8 months.

Enjoy the images.

Go the slime.. Hey with a mostly bare coloured shell, you can go wild on him
with some paint, give him a racing stripe, maybe put some advertising on
him.

Okay, this is something that's been puzzling me.

What is the difference between a refugium and the display tank? Except that
the display is bigger and prettier, couldn't you just have a tank with all
the macroalgae and cleaner critters to keep the system healthy?

If not to keep the main tank looking nice, what IS the purpose of a
refugium? Does anything go on in there that couldn't in the main tank?

Hi tech,

The reason refugiums are set up is to create a *predator-free* zone in the
system where pods can grow and propagate quickly, providing a constant food
source for the display's animals.

Growing macro algae in the main tank is feasible, but it can overgrow and shade
various light-demanding corals. I prefer this method to the one you suggest
because my tank is full of corals that I want to view and not constantly need to
prune to keep under control.

To me? Naw. It is actually quite reef safe from what I've observed.

I don't see why not. Have an ad "Sparkling Floor Service" on both side. It
will actually cleaning or demostrating while advertising. 8)

Thanks for the info. Obviously it's the predator free zone I didn't think
about.

I wasn't actually suggesting that one do this, I just wanted to understand.

So if you didn't care about tons of macro algae and had no lighting concerns
(i.e. the livestock in the tank would be okay), then you COULD have a
display tank that was a refugium too (not that you SHOULD do that).

Cheers

It does move about the sand like a buffer, occasionally when it isn't on
periscope-duty!
