Even more useful than that article was one it linked to:

which describes how to solve a variety of imbalanced
alkalinity/ph/calcium problems in very specific terms. So: High alk? Low
calc? then do steps A B C... OK Alk? low calc? then do steps D E F...
It's the first article I've seen that clearly differentiated between when
to use buffers vs. balanced calcium additives (e.g. kalkwasser) vs.
calcium chloride supplements. Each of those has definite times to use or
not use... and I discovered from this article that what I was trying to
solve a calcium problem wasn't going to do the trick. So thanks for
posting the initial link, Marc!
