View Full Version : Mushrooms just jumping off the rocks

Hi,
Last weekend I bought a rather dense colony of mushrooms and today I
noticed three or four of the smaller ones had "jumped" off the rock they
came on and are floating around the bottom of the tank. Is this normal?
Haven't seen it happen before. I was going to just stick them somewhere
else with a little superglue gel.
Thanks,
Andy
why dont you just let them migrate where they feel comfortable? Maybe they
were dying to get away from the other food hounds.. lol.
just a thought..

Had a similar experience and placed the 'shrooms on another rock. They
attached themselves and are now growing happily.

Mushrooms move when they're unhappy. Most of the time it is caused by
too much water movement, but it can be that they're in a well lit area.
Mushrooms hate water movement and they hate too much light. If they're
floating around I would probably try to put them somewhere that you
want them and see if they attach themselves.

I'd do that but there aren't any rocks where they landed and they tend
to get buried in the sand by my cucumbers:(

Dont bother with the superglue gel, it will only hold mushrooms for a few
hours, they slime up pretty good and then pull away from whatever you
attached them to.
I just let mine free float in the tank because eventually everything free
floating in my tank ends up in the back left corner where there is the most
liverock rubble, and I just leave them back there until they attach
themselves.
You can of course get a strawberry basket from the grocery store, put a
layer of liverock rubble in it, and stick the free floating mushrooms in it,
and cover with something like bridal vail found at most fabric stores, then
just wait for them to attach to a piece of liverock, then superglue the rock
they attached to, to where you want them in the tank.

I have used Super Glue Gel on Mushrooms many times now and the Gel always
holds them in place for me.
I remove the Coral from the water and lightly pat dry the area to be glued,
then apply the glue and wait 10 seconds, then apply the Coral to where I
wish it to stay under water.
Have had no failures yet and they have been there in place for many months
without any re-application of glue.
I use Flash Super Glue and Zap-A-Gap, both are commonly used by Radio
Control Modelling hobbyists..
Cheers
