All I can find around here is silica sand, while I'm aware it will
work, I'd prefer to use the calcium sand. I live in the Pacific NW,
so Southdown Play Sand isn't an option. Any ideas for places to try?

Your LFS will have Aragonite based sand, which is Calcium based. However, it'll
cost you a lot.

You can order it online from http://www.purearagonite.com/ and IIRC after you
buy 4 bags, the 5th is free.

Yes, they have it, and you're right, it's ridiculously expensive.

Does anyone know how much their shipping is? You have to call for
this info, and they're closed on weekends:)

Hey Dinky,

Look around and find the best price. I am also up here in Seattle area and
found no other source of sand except LFS. I must say I have been very
pleased with the outcome of my tank and I would of wished I had spent the
extra money if I hadn't.

The Petsmart here had some, for less than the LFS. When I went to the
LFS, the marine fish bloke said I needn't rinse it. I think he may
have been wrong. We're talkin' some serious visibility issues, I
can't even locate my poor fish. The hermits don't seem concerned, the
ones that I can see. Anyway, I tossed on my Magnum with the micron
filter, but after nearly an hour, there is no visible
improvement...any suggestions.

This is normal. The dust cloud should dissipate over a couple of days.

I used an old powerhead that fit inside a 1/2" thin wall pvc pipe and
hooked it up to a house filter with a 50 micron filter and it cleared
the tank in a day.

http://www.purple-viking.com/80gallon/Working/Working3.html

later I adapted it to work outside the tank. Like a hang on filter.

Well, I had already gone and gotten a micron filter for my HOT magnum
and it, too, cleared the tank in a day, but I did just blow about an
hour perusing your site....nice...I love that 80g...nice tank.
