View Full Version : Cleaning old used tank
Any recommendations as to what would work best for removing quite a bit of
old coralline growth from an acrylic tank that has been sitting empty for
two years? Would like to get tank back into service. TIA

Hot water and white vinegar.
Fill it up and let it soak for 24 hours.
Drain the tank, and use a metal scraper (new razor blade if you are careful) on
glass, or a credit card on acrylic.
Rinse the tank well, take your time, and it will clean up nicely.

For really thick coraline algae depostis.
I just use HCl acid diluted about 50/50 with water and some gloves and a
rag.
Just be very aware the fumes are very nasty so make sure you are in a
well vented area and be very carefull with the HCl acid it can burn the
skin.
There is no need to scrape with the HCl but it's still not a nice job,
stinks real bad.
