I thought I posted this last night, but here it is now:
Yesterday I picked up some new T-5 lighting to replace my VHO supplementation
over my 55g.

And a brand new baby Maxima clam that is adorable!

Are you happy with the colors?
I'm running 8x 54w T5's and had to order beaucoup extra bulbs to play around
with the colors. The actinic bulbs seem very weak at first but improve with
time. I think now I have 2 actinic, two blue plus, 2 aquablue and two suns.
And the ATI suns burn way whiter than the GE's yellowish cast.
All things considered I'm very happy with them- and will resume posting pics
now that I found the white balance setting on my camera- the T5's really
show up differently in photos.

Hi Toni,
The unit I bought (2 units, actually) are one piece and you can't remove the
bulbs to swap them out. Looking at the packaging, there are a few options, but
"blue plus" was not one of them. Unless you are referring to the 11,000K
"Marine" bulb? I bought "Actinic Blue" 54w bulbs.
I've only had them running one day, but from what I can tell, they are doing
just as good a job as my VHOs were doing. However, it is still a little tough
to tell, because my MH bulbs are sooo yellow right now. I'm shopping for some
175w XM 10,000K moguls I think. I've been using Ushio 10,000K bulbs for the
past year, but several people told me I would be very happy with the XM 10,000K
so I'm leaning that way. The T5s will be supplementation.
Btw, I noticed a .5 degree drop in tank temperature yesterday, so the new bulbs
are helping avoid heat build up in my tank. Just in time for summer!
