View Full Version : Compatibility Issue flame angel and yellow tang

I have just bought a small yellow tang. My flame angel has taken a dislike
to it and chases, nips at. Surprising, my Hippo Tang (Largest fish in tank)
has been swimming with and "protecting it" from the flame angel. I was told
they flame and yellow were compatible...obviously there is a problem. What
are the chances of this working out, or should I just return it. Thanks for
help.

I have had some experience with Zebrasoma's and aggression. I too have the
combo you mention but I have no issues.

I am guessing the size of the flame angel and the Yellow are similar. If so
I am also guessing the yellow was the last one in the tank.

If you do not see thing settle down soon (like a day) it will only get
worse. Find a way to reintroduce the flame angel to the tank. One way to do
this is move it to a quarantine tank for 2-3 days. When you put it back int
he main tank it will be less agressive.

If you do not have a quarantine then hopefully you can swap it with another
at your LFS. Either will work.

You are on the mark. Fortunately, they seem to be getting along better for
the moment. I'm hopeful it will work itself out, otherwise I will take your
advice....

Thanks,

Dan

Hey Dan, My Flame did the same thing when I introduced a Copper Banded
Butterfly to my 92 gal tank. It took a few tries and what I finally
had to do was rearrange my rock a little. I couldnt do much movement
of the rock, but I did just enough to open up a few new areas, once I
did that the Flame has pretty much left him alone.
