If my nitrites are rising slowly over a few weeks to a few months, what
should I add to the tank to lower it ?. I want to try and go with the
natural method, no additives. I am hoping to get info soon about making a
new filter/sump/refugium from a 3 or 4 foot tank.
If you have any Bio balls etc ,start removing them.

You could also put some macro algae in your tank

Are you talking about NitrITES or NiTRATES?
You shouldn't have ANY nitrites after a few months, and they shouldn't be
going up. But if you have them in a sal****er tank it isn't a huge deal.
I suspect you're talking about nitrates...that's what may slowly rise in a
tank over time.

Deffinatly NitrItes. It's 2 weeks after a big water change. I thinking it
might be because the buildup of **** in the bottom of the sump has been
stired up. I will check it again soon.

Not that I can tell, the Ammonia levels that day read a flat 0. Thats not
saying that there never was.
It's just that "when" I read it the readings were 0. The readings now are:
8:10pm (1 hour after feeding)
Temprature = 25C
Gravity = 1.023
pH = 8.3
Ammonia NH4 = (Reading #1 showed 1.2 this time, I think the test tube might
have has dish washing soap in it)
Ammonia NH4 = (Reading #2 showed 0 or 0.1 after washing the test tube)
Nitrite = 5 (now the lowest reading after 0)
Nitrate = 0.5 (same colour as the Nitrite)
