reef salt - help

Hi everyone!

I would like to know what sort of reef salt brand do you use for your reef
tanks? I have to change my salt as soon as possible - but which one should I
choose ?
Unfortunately I've been using the Marine Environment salt causing the po4
problems in my tank - hairy algae. I've never assumed the ME salt may
consider so much the phosphate quantity - while I was testing the RO water
with ME salt the Salifert test indicated almost 0.5 ppm PO4 ! I was in shock
:(
(I vouch that the test was good- I bought it one month ago)

Very controversial subject. Instant Ocean is very popular, as is the
newer Oceanic brand. I use Red Sea, and have had no issues.

Did you test the RO water without the salt? It may be time to change the RO
unit filters. I'd look at the filter before I changed salt.

Over 5 years I have tried all the standards( I.O.,Reef Crystals,Tropic
Marin)etc. I had settled on HW marinemix which I have used for the past
2-1/2 years very succesfully.The store where I convieniently purchased my
salt,stopped carrying the large containers that I bought(150gallons).So it
was not financially beneficial to buy the smaller bags.They switched to
Oceanic's natural sea salt mix.....I switched over immeadiately.LOVE it!
Mixes crystal clear within 20 seconds. I also use it within 15-20 minutes
after mixing!!!
Whereas,the HW marine I used to mix for5-10 hours.
until the PH sustained at a good level. I have been using
Oceanic for about 2-3 months and all is 100 percent....
but also it matters what salt works for you the best..

I have done research on this recently as my salt was wayu too high in Ca and
Mg, (an error according to the Mfg) but the point is, I've been looking in
to this a lot for the last 3 days and I have not found ANYONE with anything
bad to say about the Oceanic.
Everyone who has used it says they LOVE it.
I am going to switch to that brand.

I am also a firm believer of the oceanic.. Over th eyears, Ive tried many
(maybe all)

I was a Tropic Marin advocate for years, hairy algae went away after a few
days of use after a 50 percent H2O change, Tropic Marin has its faults
mainly a PH of 8.6, one thing we could probably all agree on, is all of the
salt mixes have faults, even the high quality ones, I am starting to
alternate salt mixes, Tropic Marin, Reef Crystals to ???, I believe this
method will counteract the shortcomings of the different mixes.

Any comments.

And suggestions on mixes you have had good luck with

I've been using Bio-Sea Marinemix and am happy with it. However, I'm
sure it will be possible to find people that are both happy and unhappy
with any particular brand. I'm really looking forward to the test
results being done by these guys:

Over the years I've used Kent, Instant Ocean, and Reef crystals. I ended
up settling with Reef Crystals because it's the easiest to find around
here. I have had no problems.
