View Full Version : New acrylic sump - link to pics

After checking out Marc's sump page on his web site I decided I would
try to build one similar to the one used on his 55. If anyone would
like to see how it came out, feel free to take a look.

This is a thread I started with the pictures attached.
The tank has been setup for only 2 months so it's brand new. The
southdown is very easy to stir up and cloud the water so the white
residue sitting on the skimmer base is just the silt "fallout" from a
settling sand storm.
Also you can see my nice healty cyano in the refugium. I had an
outbreak that started when the tank was about 3 or 4 weeks old and
almost completely died off about 2 or 3 weeks later. It came back
when I added the sump and therefore lots of fresh water and salt to
the system. There must be something in the well water I'm using or in
the cheep Crystal Sea I used that sets it off. I have since replaced
my salt mix with Oceanics new mix that is supposed to be pretty good.
As soon as I buy one of Marc's RODI setups, I should be able to
prevent these cyano outbreaks by doing water changes with RODI water.
Hopefully this one dies off soon, it's quite an eye sore and a pain to
clean every few days.

I must be missing something, or the page isn't loading correctly, but I
can't see any pictures.

Hmm, works great for me at home and work. You sure it got the full URL from
the link I posted? You could always just go to reefs.org and check out the
general reef discussions. It should be near the top.

Nope. The thread comes up, but there are no pictures anywhere on the
page, whether I follow your link or surf there. From the replies, ppl
are seeing them, perhaps you have to be registered to view
attachments?

I was shocked to be honest. I thought I was going to go with Melev again, but
even after over 15,000 people signed up over there, 'Marc' was available!
