View Full Version : Pictures of my 6*2*2 reef -- first try

This is my first try at posting some pics. They are from my 6*2*2 reef
tank. It has been going for 6 weeks, after transferring everything from my
4*1.5*1.5, which was 4 months old.

Terrific tank, Phil!

Hi Phil,

Looks very nice. For only 5.5 months in the hobby, you've acquired quite a few
items. Let me gently encourage you to take your time and let your tank
stabilize for the next few months. Your DSB won't even be fully established for
another 4.5 months (6 months total), and you can't count the first 4 months
since it was transferred.

Keep letting us know how things are going.

Marc

That tank looks *very* mature for one so new. Excellent aquascaping!

Hi Marc

Thanks to you and all for the nice comments. I am really enjoying this, and
am finding it very challenging. I don't have a DSB in my tank. I have
largely followed the advice of my LFS owner (here in Sydney Australia),
which was to have a very thin covering of sand in the main tank, however we
have set up quite a large sump (4*1.5*1.5) which incorporates a refugium
section with a "semi" DSB (about 2 - 3" thick) in which I have some
Caulerpa, a little live rock and heaps of green algae.

I have built the system up quite quickly, but my intent is to let it
stabilise now for a few months before trying to take it to the next level.
As you can see from the pictures, there are a number (around 23 I think)
corals, roughly 70 kg (155 lbs) of live rock. We also have 2 anemones, 2
Birdnose Wrasse, 2 True Perculas, 3 Blue Chromis, 1 Coral Beauty, 1 Yellow
Tang and 1 unidentified yellow and white coloured wrasse (Pic 2581 is a not
very good shot of him). I have 1 largish red / orange clown in my
quarantine tank -- he is scheduled to go into the reef in two weeks time.

Any advice or criticism is welcomed.

Thanks

Phil

you need to ID that one, before adding her to your tank. it might not be comatible with
your percs.

Hi Phil,

That sounds good. Maybe your wrasse is a Lemon Meringue Wrasse?

Units are feet. i.e. 4 feet * 1.5 feet * 1.5 feet

All of my corals are relatively easy to look after. I would like to be able
to manage some of the more difficult ones -- e.g Acropora

My Birdnose(s) are well behaved. While they are very active, and aggressive
feeders (the large male will take food from my hand), they don't bother
anyone else. However, I did see one eat a very small starfish, and I
suspect they may have taken a couple of small snails.

Thanks for this link. After a quick look, it may be Halichoeres
Leucoxanthus

Richard

Thanks for the comment re the clown. From fishindex.com, he/she looks like
an ephippium or Red Saddleback Clownfish. I think you are correct -- he
attacked me when was changing the filter wool in the quarantine tank. He
makes the "bad fish list" on
http://www.aquariumpros.com/articles/badfishlist.shtml

I think he is going back to the LFS.

Thanks

Phil

well if you wanna keep him go for it, but dont put him in your large reef, you will be
hurting if you have to remove all your LR to catch him!!! I dont exactly agree with much
on that list, they just dont work like I do.
