how much live sand would be suffice to "seed" a 125g tank? We plan on
putting about a 2" deep sandbed of sugar fine aragonite sand.

Is that a 6' long tank? Maybe 4 plastic cups worth. Or even 4 measuring cups
worth.
Don't spread it out when you lower it in. Just make four small mounds with the
pumps off, so that the critters won't be blown out into the water. The
microfauna will migrate outwards on their own. When your pumps are back on, the
small mounds will settle gently, over time.
