Soft corals are probably less demanding if you're not going all out on
lighting and supplementation. Pumping xenia
(http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=22&pCatId=1494)
look quite cool and grow quite readily. I've seen a few people posting
in an absolute rage when they hear the word because they had such a
hard time eradicating them. :)
If you're serious about it, pick up Corals by Eric Borneman - it's the
most comprehensive book I ever read out of school. :)

As Rikko also wrote, soft corals seem to be known as more hardy.
Leather corals and mushrooms would be worth looking at.
Also, if you decide to make a big move in this direction, see Jeff's
Exotic Fish for their 9 for $99 deal - it's a great (i.e. inexpensive)
beginner deal for some more common corals. Of course, you'll probably
have to pay $60 in shipping, but still, it comes out to $18/coral, when
they are often much more. They send decent sized corals, too. You just
need to be careful and do some research, because from their list it's
easy to mix hard/soft, aggressive/non-aggressive.

I'm definitely a beginner and I have good success (so far) with:
mushroom leather corals
sarcophyton
bubble
euphyllia anchora
catalaphyllia
brains
sinularia
I have another one that I don't know the name of. It's like a disc of small
stalks (each approx 1/4" diameter). Out of each stalk comes a "flower" so
that the whole thing looks like a dinner plate full of small creamy coloured
flowers.

Should also add Coralliomorphs are doing very well, as are Gonioporas
although a number of people have told me that they don't last very long.

My LFS called it a "Duncan Opsomnia" but I don't think it's the right name,
because I can't find any reference to it. I'll post a picture in the next
couple of days.

Please have a look at http://community.webshots.com/album/149890982jXnxRs
Photos 2604, 2608, 2609, 2610 show the unknown coral. The "flowers" are
quite large -- for scale, the male birdnose wrasse is about 6" long and the
large coralliomorphs are around 2" in diameter.
Photos 2616, 2621, 2622, 2623 show a superb piece of live rock, but I have
no idea what all of the rich growth is -- do you know??
You can see a small zooanthid, which is not looking terrific. It has some
large growths on its side which also look a bit like coralliomorphs -- do
you know what they are?
Thanks

Those large ones do look much more frilly than zoanthids typically look. I
can't say.
That other growth could be a form of Xenia, but it also reminds me of
Anthellia. You might also compare it to Clove Polyps.
To be honest, I don't think I recoginized a single piece you asked about!

Looks like a Goni. If you have a look at my photos at
http://community.webshots.com/album/149890982jXnxRs
there are two Gonis in Photo 2582. The yellow one has stems similar to
yours. I have seen many varieties at the two LFSs that I use.
