Redox +

Been fighting red slime for about 6 months with little sucess. Read
about Redox + and tried searching for some reason posts with no
results. Has anyone used Redox + lately? and what were the results,
good, bad, otherwise. Also did it have any affect on your corals? I am
very leary of introducing any kind of chemicals I have a 92 gal tank
that is a mix of corals (softies, lps and sps) and fish with a DSB and
live rock.

Hi Ken,

Are you referring to Cyano bacteria? If so, after you've done everything else,
you could use Boyd Enterprise's Chemi Clean. I used it on my tank without
incident. Turn off your skimmer for 48 hours, and then when you do turn it on,
they recommend changing 20% of the water.

However, I would first recommend increasing flow and siphoning out all you can
see and reach with airline tubing to see if you can't beat it. You'll want sand
stirring creatures like nassarius snails and fighting conches to keep the
surface well mixed in the upper most layer.

I have had some success with "Antired" on what I think was cyanobacteria. I
used approx. 50% of the recommended dose, and had no ill effects.

Hey Marc,
I read about increasing flow and this may sound like a dumb question
but does that mean overall turnover of water in the tank? Or
increasing flow to get the waste out of the tank and to the skimmer?
Reason I ask is because soem of the Cyano is growing in direct line
with my return, so it is getting blasted with water. I have a CSL T3
as a return pump with only about a 3 foot head. My tank is a 92 gal
bow front corner with the return pointed towards the front so it hits
the bowed glass and spreads through out the tank.
I think my biggest problem is my skimmer. I have an AquaC 120 that is
a couple of years old and even when i clean it and the pump, it does
not produce much waste. I dont know what the problem is, because it
use to produce a lot more than it does now and I cant figure out why.
I have a foxface, hippo tank, maroon clown, flame angle and copper
banded butterfly, so Im sure there is plenty of junk for the skimmer
to pull out. I only feed once a day so I dont think food waste is the
problem.
The Cyano started last fall and I thought it was because my lights
(2x150 HQI) were getting old. I replaced the lights but have not been
able to get rid of the slime. It is only showing up in spots, but it
does make the tank look bad and it is growing where some of my corals
are. Just a general pain inthe butt and im getting real tired of
having to suck it out every week or so.
