I need a good pump for sump return for a new 180g FOWLR. The tank is not
set up yet but I'd like to get all the pieces before making the change from
the 60g. I'm currently using a mag7 for return on the 60g. The old tank will
be my new sump.
As for the fish I currently have a dogface puffer, harlequin tusk, 2
damsels, a hippo tang, & a large angel. I have tried to add a pair of maroon
clowns before but the puffer wants to nip at their fins. Do you think they
would be okay in a tank 3x the size? I really want to dismantle the holding
tank they are in now & combine the 2 tanks.
TIA, Steve

For a pump I would suggest a mag-12 or mag-24. The puffers are just
nasty little fish. He probably will not allow a new fish in his
territory without killing it even with a 180.

Thanks for the pump recommendation.
I was thinking, since the old 60g will be my new sump - I could move the
clowns in the main tank for a few months so that they get established that
way by the time the others are moved in the clowns will "own" the new tank.
Any ideas on how well that might work?

If the 180 hasn't been established yet I wouldn't put anything in it,
but once it gets established you can put them in before you add
anything else.

I would look for an external if you are going to drill the sump. A blueline
would be good, or a Velocity if heating is not an issue.
