View Full Version : Need Info on Fighting Conchs

I recently bought some reinforcements for my clean up crew and decided to
add a fighting conch to my 75gal reef.

The conch quickly became my favorite critter in the tank.

Within an hour though, one of my Green Leg Hermits decided to attack it.
I'm assuming it wanted to try it's shell on for size. The conch's shell was
smaller than the hermits and even though I seperated them a couple of times,
I did not have another tank to put the hermit in so I thought I'd let nature
take it's course, hoping that the hermit would eventually leave the conch
alone.

The next day, the hermit was still in it's original shell but the conch was
no where to be found.

Do conchs normally burrow in the sand. I added this guy on Thursday and
have not seen him since.

Also, if I wanted to add more to my 75gal reef. How many would you
recommend?

TIA

I have a fighting conch in my 75gal FOWLR tank. I have crushed coral, not
sand, so it doesn't burrow. It will stay "dormant" for up to two weeks and
then suddenly move all over. The hermits have investigated, but never really
"attacked" it.

I got a fully-grown Fighting Conch, had him for a few months now, he'll
spend 2-4 days 3/4ths buried in sand not moving, then the next day go
careening all over the tank at high speed, clanking off glass, etc. I have
no idea why they burrow and then come out, but he's done this repeatedly.
