Turned on the ro/di water to fill a top off bucket last night. fell asleep.
woke in the morning with about 40 gallons of water all over the floor. Dog
was barking thru the night, I just told him to shut up. What a huge mess.
The lesson you learn the hard way are the ones that stay with you.( I hope).

At least the kitchen floor is clean now.

I know this experience. Be smart and do not do this mistake again.
Buy a float valve kit and install it on your collection bucket...
It will shut off the water supply when the bucket will fill up.
Since I have installed it I have never had a similar "accident" :-)

Apologize to your dog. Buy him a nice treat as a thank you gift ;-)
Tell him he was RIGHT and you were wrong, very very wrong :-)))

I set a timer to go off, and keep it near me. If you can't do that, set
the alarm in your cellphone to go off at a certain time and clip the
phone to your belt.

Home Depot sells a moisture alarm designed to squeal when the floor gets
wet around a water heater. Costs $20 and you could put it on the floor
next to your container.

My floor has gotten wet a number of times too. The timer has reduced
that about 95%.

He did have an alarm - his dog was barking all night...
It did not help him too much ;-)

He would better get a float switch :-)))

I just have the float on my two containers. I place a dinner plate on
the floor in front
of the front door to remind me I'm making water. Worst that can happen
now is
I waste a bunch of water down the drain if I forget. :-)

The kit I got, includes a pressure controlled switch you connect
before your RO membrane and this will cut off the water supply
when the pressure builds up in the clean water outlet line blocked
by the float switch... Pretty neat design and no electricity involved.

I bought a really old dodgy second hand fish tank about 300l and now use
this for my FW.
Even if I forget for a day it does not overflow and I only have to run
RO once every few weeks.
I reckon it's one of the best things I;ve bought.
I also keep a heap of salt mix on hand so if there is a problem I have
300l of RO water to make ASW to use if needed as well.
You can get some real cheap large tanks second hand, particularly tank
under 18" in depth.
Failing that a food safe plastic container or a float switch or alarm s
the go.
I hate the idea of filtered water going to waste.

I use a water barrel I bought at lee valley tools.

I put a float valve on it so I always have 45 gallons on hand to use.
It was a great investment.
In case your wondering I contacted the original man'f in Ireland. The
tank is completely safe
for storing water. (fresh or salt) I got a email from one of their chem
lab people confirming there would be
no leeching of anything into the water. I checked! It is great having
a bunch of water
available anytime you need it. The float valve insures it will not
overflow. You
will never have to wait for water again!

my RO water container overflows to canalization, it's the simplest
method possible
