View Full Version : Jeez I just never learn ( bought a Manderin)
Ya Ya I know 30gal and a Manderin = failure but I couldn't resist.
We went to my lfs this morn looking for a hippo and maybe some mexican turbos.
well low and behold the manderin jim got in a mounth ago was still there. Nice, fat and
looking happy. I asked if he's been eating frozen food and the answer was yes.
I've been dealing with this guy for 10yrs and trust his judgement and stock so we'll see
what happens. It's floating right now & I'll be letting him out after this post, Boy he's a biggun.
Wish us luck.

Keep feeding it what the store was feeding it. I have three myself. :)
My smaller Target Mandarin eats frozen Mysis. My big huge blue Mandarin
eats anything, including Forumla One or Two "small" pellet food.

First off, good luck. Here's some encouragement.
I have a mandarin in my 35 gallon tank, with roughly 70lbs of live rock. He
doesn't appear to eat anything that I feed the tank, but it's been over six
months now and he's getting bigger. Definitely my favourite fish, except
that I rarely see him as he usually hides behind the rocks.
Regards,
Dave.

Before I got my Manderin I established a pretty good in tank
population of mysis and amphipods. Just get a culture from Inland
Aquatics. And heck nothing beats watching the Manderin tool around and
hunt little shrimp ;)

Gunna be short .I have to try and get my clown out.
Thanks for the support, tanks is 6 mo old, not my first or the last.
Yea he does spent most of the time in the rock. I did see him eat yesterday
very encouraging. Thanks guys.
Update:
He jumped out last night but my cat saved him, yes my cat.
I was already in bed at this point and did not find out untill tonight what happened.
The wife and my niece were watching a movie after the tank lights turned off.
At some point my niece said " did you here that" the wife "no" niece "it kinda sounded like a PLOP"
2 min later my cat is freaking out in front of the tank( not in a attack way but a crying somthing is
wrong way) . The wife turns on the light to see what is going on. There is my manderin flopping
his way out from under the stand. Yes my fault, I should have sealed the back mounths ago when
one of my clown jumped out but forgot.
He seems fine now and I have taken measures so this will not happen again.
On a rather off topic note about cats, I can not stand them. I got EEK our first cat for the wife years
ago and had to put him down 2 yrs ago due to cancer, after spending over 1k on treatments
and he was not getting better it was time, he was suffering badly. I actually cried when my vet
came over to do it. I got a kitten 6mo later for the kids and I've slowly been falling in love with
him . After last night, I think he has earned a my respect.
Man I have never been able to make a short post :)

What a hero. What are you going to name that Mandarin?
When my baby clownfish took the trip to my sump, and I found
him 3 weeks later, I named him "Lucky". ;)
