Greetings.

My apologies if I'm being too annoying with a lot of questions. :-)

If I place a pane of eggcrate covering the entire bottom of the tank,
before I add the sand, will that give more stability to my LR?

What are your recommendations on eliminating dead water flow spots in
the tank?

I believe I need 10x the tank's capacity?

Should I use spray bars or "heat squeezed" pieces of pvc?

Pump recommendations?

I'm still debating about having a sump. I know it will be beneficial,
but until I come up with something to put the remote ballast box
somewhere else, I think I will have to go with a closed loop. :-(

Thank you.

Eggcrate will make your LR stable.

Use water pump and direct to that spot.

10X is good.

No spray bar.
Heat squeezed? I have not heard of this one or seen this method before. If
this is not a typo, using heat pressurize to push out water or any thing
creating heat will effect your water temperature.

Simply use unobstract PVC. If you have bubble [fine or large], you can try
to use obsticle like a barrerier prior to it final destination.

I do not have much pump recommendation on which brand or model.
MAG will generally fine. Other like MaxiJet / LittleGiant etc.... It really
depend on your need of your tank.

Sump will provide more volume and able to place unsightly item. You can do
water changes and top-off in the sump. Sump can be a place for mis-behave
critter. like crab / shrimp etc... Sump can also be a combo as sump /
refugium.

Is it also recommended to use it on the back of the tank, or just the
bottom?

Should I aim for more?

Ok, I'm not really sure how you call it, but when you heat the pvc
tube and squeeze it on one end it will give you a more strong water
stream?

I will check them out.

Will the sump be less expensive if I made it of a tank, or do you
suggest something else?

Any good places to see detailed instructions on making one?

Thank you.

That really depend on your inhabitant on how they handle the current. You
want alot but not too much that may stress them out or need to. Also, you do
not want to have sand storm due to the flow / current. You also not not want
your critter get suck in to the intake or being knock around from the
output.

You not need to heat anything. You simply need a water pump to push or pull
the water through the PVC tube / pipe.

You can convert any old sump / tank / trashbin etc to a sump. Just aslongit
food grade or safe. Do not forget durable or it may break / crack on you.
