Hi all. Does a reef tank need actinic lights? I have 2 - T8's 5000K
overdriven 4x and 2 actinic T12's overdriven 4x also. I only have some
mushrooms, green star polyps and brown button polyps and they are all doing
great under these lights. I figure what if I just run all 5000K T8's, will
they like that better or are actinics really necessary? TIA.

The actinics generate the low spectrum light nessesary for zoothenalia
to produce nutrition for the corals. With the lighting you have a would
say you should be able to get some other soft corals and they should be
fine
