Hi all. Does a reef tank need actinic lights? I have 2 - T8's 5000K
overdriven 4x and 2 actinic T12's overdriven 4x also. I only have some
mushrooms, green star polyps and brown button polyps and they are all doing
great under these lights. I figure what if I just run all 5000K T8's, will
they like that better or are actinics really necessary? TIA.

What do you suggest? 6500K? 10000K? 20000K? If the corals would do better
with these I would be glad to purchase them. Being that I only have
mushrooms, green star polyps and brown button polyps, would the 6500K bulbs
be sufficient or do I need at least the 10000K ones? TIA.

I think if you put all 5000k lamps in the colour would look a bit to yellow?
Personally I like a 'bluer look' to my tank and I've only got a few soft
corals also and I've got 2 actinics and 2 10000k's

Paul,
Thanks for the advice. I think I will go with that combo.
