View Full Version : Psychotic Yellow Tang

Hi All,
I have a tang that I purchased recently, and after a couple of days in
the tank, it started constantly fighting its own reflection. The
creature constantly sprints from side to side, and wiggles his/her body
against the tank (I assume it's fighting its own reflection.)
It already has a thin red band (blood?) in its dorsal fin.
Will this fish eventually get stressed and die from this? I don't
understand how come it doesn't get exhausted. It's nonstop!
Any ideas?
TIA,
Rich

29 gallon, with live rock.
I had a tang that was even bigger (he poached in a malfunctioning heater
disaster,) and I never saw him like that?

Tangs travels for miles every day, and putting one in a 29g
is just so contrary to nature. I have a baby Hippo in my 4'
long 55g, and I know that tank isn't large enough.
Eventually I'm going to need something 6' or longer. I'm
already playing with different ideas.

Hi Marc,
However, the other yellow tangs that I have had seemed content with
their surrounding, and certainly did not fight their own reflection on a
constant basis. Incidentally, the hippo that I bought, excited the
yellow tang (until it was dead from the yellow tang's harassment.)
What kind of fish do you recommend in a 29g with live rock, sand, PS, MH
lighting, and corals?
TIA,
Rich

Dwarf Angel, various Wrasses, Blennies, Clowns, Hawkfish,
Gobies. Pretty much smaller fish that don't necessarily
desire to travel far.

Rich,
Assuming you water quality is high, Try turning everything electrical off!
{well for a little while anyway}
If the fish calms down then you probably have an earth leakage problem or
vibration problem etc...

How many yellow tangs do you have in your tank?
On the one hand, I'm kinda worried that your putting too many fish into a
29g ... on the other hand, I'm curious on your experiences of how they
reacted and whether they began schooling behavior
