I use the fish box (like the lfs uses when you buy fish) to scoop out sand
from the bag, then lower to the sand bed, and slowly let it spill out. you
will still get a cloud for a few days.

I left the sand in the bag I got from the LFS. I lowered the bag into the
water and let it sit on top of the sand. Then I cut off one corner of the bag,
big enough to let small pieces of shells through, but not big enough to dump it
out too quick. My tank isnt deep so I was able to slowly pull the bag up and
trap the end of it underneath my hood, then it slowly leaks out like an
hourglass. The hole of the bag is only a centimeter above the sand bed so it
doesnt have to drop far.

I use a long piece of the one inch lift tube for an undergravel filter and a
plastic funnel. I cut the bottom on the funnel so that the hole is large
enough to allow the sand to run through and glued it to the lift tube. Now
you can place the tube exactly where you want the extra sand in the tank and
pour sand into the funnel. This way, you don't get sand all over the rocks
and coral and it doesn't cloud the water very much because it's only falling
in a small area.
