I just found this group. I have a question..... Anyone here have a clue on
the life expectancy of a Black Cap Basslet? I have one that is going on 4
years in my tank. He (gussing here) is at full length (about 4 inches) and is
bulking out nicely. He has been in a 15 and now a 10 gallon micro reef. The
books say nothing under 30 gallon tank but we never let him read the book *g*
so he doens't know the difference. He has grown into quite an impressive fish
who is out for us to see most of the time and eats like a pig. He is so wide
we nicknamed him Sushi.

that wasn't my question. I am a micro reef aquariest. He has THRIVED for 4
years, so I seriously doubt the tank size is an issue. What I asked is if
anyone knows anything about the life expectancy for the species.

No one know the life expectancy in a tank [big or small] for Black Cap
Basslet. I have heard one reefer had it for something like 9 years until
some disater occured.
Still, why worry about any fish / coral or any inhibitant life expectency?
The main focus or goal should be... keep them aslong as you can or able to.
It would be the same as asking you. What your life expectancy? 30? 60? 90?
100? Human do not really have specific life expectancy. Someone just use
estimate / average. If you truly need a solid number. Then 9 will be the
answer since this number come from a reefer that had it for that amount of
time.
This is my brand new shiny ¼ cent of a penny for you.
