View Full Version : Two Questions: Lighting + Stocking

Hi all,

I've recently setup a 60g tank with 30kg of live rock. I've built my own
lighting setup using 4 39W T5 tubes (2 white and 2 blue) and dimmable
ballasts. I've got the dimmers controlled by PC and have based the times on
the latitude/longitude of part of the Great Barrier Reef.

Now I'm trying to work out a suitable schedule for lighting and come up with
this:

3% (new moon) to 7% (full moon) - blue (based on moon rise/set times)
---- twilight begins ----
rise from 0% or moonlight whichever greater to 20% - blue
rise from 0% to 20% - white
-------- sunrise --------
rise from 20% to 80% - blue/white
--- sunrise + 15 mins ---
rise from 80% to 100% - blue/white
-- sun at highest point --
fall from 100% to 80% - blue/white
---- sunset - 15 mins ---
fall from 80% to 20% - blue/white
-------- sunset ---------
fall from 20% to 0% or moonlight whichever greater - blue
fall from 20% to 0% - day
----- twilight ends -----
3% (new moon) to 7% (full moon) - blue (based on moon rise/set times)

Is anyone do anything similar and have any suggestions?

Now for the fish stocking question. I've pretty much decided on the
following stock added in the following order:
Catalina Goby
Royal Gramma
Yellow Tailed Damsel
Pair of Percula Clown

This equals around 10" when the fishes are fully grown. I may possibly a
Flame Angel if water parameters allow it.

Can anyone see any problems from this combination?

Many thanks,
Chris

I don't see any problems with the fish, and i see no reason why you
wouldn't be able to keep a flame angel. With regards to the lights i
feel you are making it very difficult for yourself. I run three T8 30w
tubes (two white and one blue). The blue comes on at 08:00 then the
white comes on at 08:30, the white goes off at 20:00 and the blue goes
off at 20:30. the only problems i have with this set up is getting
enough of a supply of small rocks to propergate onto. i even have a
proites rock with fifteen christmas tree worms in and that is starting
to recollonate the parts that died in transit.
