I'm on a budget. I'm still having a few problems but want to get it all
sorted.
RO unit on way- to clear up the water issues.
temps are still an issue, I thought that 24-26C was a good range through the
day but mate whose well up in these things assures me the corals would do a
lot better with a cooler and the temps in and around 23C.
any opinions.
can anyone recommend a good chiller. I did see a cheap electronic cooler on
an American website but it was 12V and needed a temp controller and PSU.

Sunds like you might be in Aus??
I bought a Sfiligoi chiller in Sydney and it performs very well. Between
the chiller and heaters, I maintain approx. 25 - 26 C all the time. On a
very cold (for Sydney) morning the temp goes to 24.6. All my corals, fish
and anemones have been thriving -- until today when I lost an anemone and a
Chromis for no apparent reason.

That temperature is too low for a reef tank.
However, if you are determined to run a cooler tank, the
IceProbe will do the job for that size tank nicely.
