I bought some of these on impulse. Mostly because
they are quite rare in stores and I was first impressed
when I first saw them in Amano's NATURE AQUA
Vol II.

Again to avoid confusion, the fish I am talking about
has yellow highlights on their fins and tails. Their
eyes are blue and their bodies almost transparent
rendering their inside pinkish. They look beautiful
for my 2-gallon planted tank but I also heard they
need hard water to thrive. Is this true?
All my planted tank has very soft water (<3dH)
and pH of 6.8 (CO2 injection). So I wonder if
the Furcatas can last with this parameters.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

One of a group of rainbow's known as 'Blue Eyes'.
Searching the names Popondetta furcata and Pseudomugil furcatus should get
you more info.
I believe they will be happier in somewhat harder water which is on the
alkaline side. If they are active and chasing each other with spread fins,
that's a good sign.
Perhaps to go along with that impulse purchase (no problem, we ALL do it),
you could impulse but a 5 gallon aquarium for these guys. They will be
happier and you will enjoy them more.
