View Full Version : Hair Algae -- SAE good choice?

I have a twig catfish, two plecostemus and two cory cats, none of which are
making any headway (if they're even trying) on hair algae. It's really
becoming a nuisance in my 38, and I'm afraid some of my plants are going to
succumb to it soon. Suggestions? Websites?

Thanks all;
Duncan

SAEs are supposed to be good, so are beckman's pencilfish for hair
algae. I have a similar condition in my tank that I'm hoping a new
light setup I'm getting will fix the problem by promoting the plants
to outgrow the algae.

I got 3 mollies to eat my thread algae but after they tasted the flake food
they turned their nose to the algae. My SAE and Zebra snails do eat it
sometimes but not enough to get rid of it. I found by reducing the amount
of light, doing more water changes, and removing the algae by twisting a
toothbrush works the best to control it.

I have two SAE's that cleaned a 55gal tank full of black brush algae in
about 3 weeks. They've more than earned their keep.
